Complex mathematical models are applied in many areas of modern society, for example bus schedules, weather forecasts, Internet search engines and computer animation.

You will study both fundamental mathematics and how mathematical models and methods are used in engineering. You will learn the principles and algorithms used in implementing the models in computers.

You can choose one of four study lines:

  • Secure and Reliable Computing, where you will study the theory and technology of future safe and secure IT systems based on mathematical methods.
  • Mathematics and Scientific Computing involves computer-based definition and resolution of mathematical problems. The objective is to design efficient algorithms that are also robust to various kinds of errors.
  • Operations Research for Decision Making, where focus is on basic and advanced technical topics in optimisation. Also, more organisatorial aspects are touched upon.
  • In Computational Data Analysis you will learn to extract the important information from the data, to model this information and to make decisions based on the information.

Teaching varies between lectures and classroom instruction. In addition, there is often project work together with other students. Students are encouraged to participate in class discussions.

For the final 6-12 months, you will be writing your MSc thesis. The thesis is a scientific research project, often carried out in collaboration with one of the university's industrial partners.

Mathematical Modelling and Computation can be studied as a:

  • 2-year MSc programme (120 ECTS)

You also have the possibility to take single courses or subjects within the programme.

Graduation from the master's degree programme confers the title Master of Science in Engineering (MSc).

To be admitted to an MSc programme, you must have a bachelor's degree in a relevant subject.

In addition, documentation may be required verifying your proficiency in English is at a specified level.
